One Little Change
My daughter Esther and I recently watched Return of the Jedi. It was her first time watching it. There was this one visually dark scene where Darth Vader and the Emperor were standing in the Death Star with the vast blackness of the galaxy showing through the broad windows behind them. They were having a conversation and the mood was heavy.
Esther’s quiet voice cut through the somber tone. “This scene would be really different if Darth Vader had houseplants,” she said.
I laughed as I pictured it in my mind. A philodendron hanging from the ceiling or perhaps a big potted ficus tree by the window.
She was right. Even just one houseplant would change everything. No one could take Darth Vader seriously if they knew he was diligently trying to keep a limp maidenhair fern alive (I always find them so finicky!)
And that reminds me of something I consider often: a little change can make a big difference. Sometimes I get overwhelmed thinking of all the things I should be doing differently. Better to consider one thing at a time.
This week, resist the overwhelm by focusing on just one little change. It really can make a big difference!
