Upward and Outward

Lately I’ve been listening to the audio book of The Count of Monte Cristo. In the story, Edmond Dantes is falsely accused and thrown into prison where he lives for fourteen long years. In his cell, there is only one tiny window to look out where he can see a thin sliver of sky. I was thinking about that and about how hard it would be to be trapped in a place with such a limited view.

We all live like that to some extent—we can’t help it. We grow up in a particular family, on a particular street, in a particular neighborhood, and that accounts for so much of our view. But God’s view is broad and He is always calling our hearts upward and outward.

Blessings to you this week. Ask God to expand your view and trust Him to do it.
