An Invitation to Narnia

This week I’ve been finishing up some small paintings while listening to The Silver Chair, by C.S. Lewis. Have you ever read it? Being my favorite in the Narnia collection, I’ve read it countless times and if you look through my illustrations, you’ll likely see its influence.

I wonder—would you like to read along with me this week and next? If so, check out my blog over the next couple of weeks—I’ll be sharing encouraging reflections inspired by the story, and you can follow along there! I’ll also be posting links to my blog in my stories on Instagram.

This post only mentions events that occur in the first few pages…

The story begins at an awful school called, Experiment House, where two children, Jill Pole and Eustace Clarence Scrubb, are hiding behind the gym. Realizing that some bullies are coming for them, they scramble up a steep slope toward a door that’s almost always locked. This time though, it’s open…

That unlocked door captures my imagination every time I read about it.

John 10:9-16 says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.”

God is more wonderful than we have words to describe. He’s reflected in our world while also being utterly beyond anything else we know. He’s the Great Door, and He’s called us out of whatever small world we’ve wrapped around ourselves, into His presence—that place of freedom. Once we’ve met Him, He’s forever reminding us that we belong to His pasture and that we carry the scent of it with us.

Blessings to you,

~Amy
